Billy Elliot: Group Work and Oral Presentation


Group Work: each group will prepare a poster with significant things (photos, words, phrases, illustrations, dialogues, etc.) from the chapter of the story they were assigned by the teacher. Every student will have to explain why you chose those things, for example: 
  • I chose the words “Follow your dreams” because that is the most important message of the story.
  • I chose the photo where Billy is dancing with his boxing shoes because it shows that he loves dancing and doesn´t like boxing.
After the poster presentation, stds will have to answer one of the following questions according to each chapter (the questions will be selected at random by the teacher during the oral presentation):

CHAPTER 1
1. Does Billy like his brother? When does he listen to his brother´s music?
2. What does Billy do with his Nan in the morning? Can his Nan walk very well?
3. Where does Billy´s Nan often go? Why does Billy think she does it?
4. What does Nan ask Billy when they see the police? Who is Billy worried about?
5. Why does Billy like playing the piano? When did his mom die?
6. Does Jackie like listening to Billy when he plays the piano? What does he do?


CHAPTER 2
1. When does Billy go to the boxing club? What does he think about boxing?
2. What does he do instead of hitting the opponent? What does his teacher tell him?
3. What does Billy see on the other side of the room? What does he do after his teacher goes out?
4. Who encourages Billy to try? What does he answer?
5. What does Mrs. Wilkinson do? What does she tell Billy?
6. How does Billy think about Mrs. Wilkinson? Why is he happy?
7. What does Billy find out when he´s walking back home? What does Mrs. Wilkinson want?
8. How does Billy feel about Fred Astaire? Who loves Fred?


CHAPTER 3
1. What´s Billy´s problem with ballet? What do his dad and brother think about ballet?
2. What did Billy hear on the TV? Why?
3. What do Billy´s classmates do? And Debbie?
4. Why does Billy think that Debbie and her mom are posh?
5. What effect does music have on Billy? Who´s Billy´s best friend? Are they similar?
6. What does Michael think about ballet?  What does he tell Billy?
7. Does Billy go back to ballet classes on Saturday? Why did he feel bored at the start?
8. What does Billy like about the class? How do you do it? 
9. Is the spin easy? What does the teacher suggest?
10. Why doesn´t Billy give the shoes back to the teacher?
11. What does he do with the ballet shoes? Why?


CHAPTER 4
1. What does Jackie think about Billy? Why?
2. How does Jackie describe the spin? What does Billy say about it?
3. When did the strike start? Why is Jackie worried?
4. Who are the scabs? What do they do?
5. How do the miners on strike treat the scabs?
6. What does George, the boxing teacher, tell Jackie in the mine?
7. What does Jackie think? What is he going to do?
